Drink it now to 2014. Sherwood Estate was started 25 years ago by Dayne and Jill Sherwood. They now have 8 vineyards covering 200 acres – 3 in Marlborough and 5 in Waipara. “Waipara has good mid-palate weight compared to Marlborough with lower cropping in general and the tannins tend to be a bit firmer,” Dayne commented during my visit in July 2011. The wines are naturally fermented using indigenous yeast. The “Heritage” range is made purely with Waipara fruit, with these wines in particular aiming at “being different from your average NZ wine”. These guys are doing a commendable job and their prices offer incredible value.

Corbières Rouge, Col des Vents ($14.99) – The wine is made from 50% Carignan, 35% Grenache, 15% Syrah. Brambly berry, cherry and raspberry, spices, black pepper…all are present in this authentic French country wine. “This is one of my favorites, year in, year out, because of its bright fruit and acidity, its floral aromas and its impeccable balance. The Languedoc produces an ocean of wine, and this one is regularly a standout value.” Washington Post (Nov. 2010), EXCEPTIONAL GREAT VALUE

Wines of Italy!

Emiliano Morando the Export Director for Vinchio Vaglio Serra will be in the shop on Wednesday, April 25th from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. We will be tasting eight different wines from Italy. He will pour red, white, still, D’Asti, Dry and Sweet. Something for everyone! Make sure to stop in for a taste! Stay tuned for a listing of all the wines to be served. We will also have a special on the wines he will be tasting.

Like us on Facebook!

Mark your calendars for our next big tasting! On Wednesday, April 25th, we will be tasting eight wines from Italy! Today we have a New Zealand Pinot Noir and a French blend to taste.
