Thanksgiving Day Wines!
Jerry Green from Koerner Distributors will be back in the shop on Tonight (Wednesday) from 6:00 to 8:00 to taste some great Thanksgiving Day Wines! Check out the list!
Chateau Suau Grand Vin De Bordeaux from France ($17.99) – The white Bordeaux blend is perhaps one of the most overlooked categories of wine in the world today. Up until the 1960s, vineyards in Bordeaux were dominated by white grape varieties, namely Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle. However, changing tastes and fashions, as well as improved winemaking techniques making red Bordeaux more affordable to the general public, consigned white Bordeaux to the sidelines. The Chateau Suau Blanc Sec is friendly, with up-front peach and almond notes that turn a touch diffuse on the finish. 55% Savignon Blanc, 35% Semillon & 10% Muscadelle.
Clos Le Vigneau Vouvray from France ($23.99) – “The 2011 Clos Le Vigneau, from a more challenging vintage, is just as good. Aromatics of spring flowers, poached pears, honeyed melon and some buttered citrus jump from the glass of this medium-bodied, very pure, fresh and nicely concentrated wine, which is the epitome of a dry Chenin Blanc meant to go with a cornucopia of cuisines.” – Wine Advocate 91 pts.
Cloudline Pinot Noir from Oregon ($20.99) – On the nose, there is deep cherry, black fruits and earth. On the palate, there is excellent weight and balance, with good structure, and substantial depth of fruit. Compared to 2008, the 2009 is a little more forward, like the very good 2006 and 2004 vintages, making it a wine that offers immediate pleasure. And though one can enjoy the wine over the next several years, there’s no reason to wait!
Rombauer Vineyards Zinfandel from California ($29.99) – Deep purple in color; powerful aromas of wild berries, clove and plum emerge from the glass. Luscious, juicy layers of black cherry, blackberry and boysenberry integrate with nuances of allspice and burst on the palate. Berry flavors linger for an extended finish.
Duckhorn Vineyards Napa Valley Merlot from California ($51.99) – This wine displays all of the benefits of slow, even ripening during a mild growing season. Though there is fullness and a lush character to this Merlot, there is also restraint and elegance. Promising aromas of cherry, red plum, raspberry, and dried herbs lead to a clean fresh entry with impeccably balanced acidity suporting intense red fruit flavors of cranberry, plum and raspberry. Round, supple tannins provide an enticing framework for the flavors and contribute to a lingering finish. “A lovely Merlot, this is pure, vibrant and elegant. It has classic cherry, red-currant and cedar flavors, and while there’s a sweetness at the core, the finish is thoroughly dry. 91 Points Wine Enthusiast.
Pendleton Blended Canadian Whisky from Canada ($26.99) – Pendleton Whisky (they drop the E) is a 10-year old blended Canadian whiskey. It’s made with water from Mt. Hood in Oregon, and is bottled by Oregon’s Hood River Distillers, but since it’s distilled in Canada, Pendleton keeps its Canadian whiskey label. On the nose, Pendleton Whisky is sweet, with notes of caramel and vanilla. The first sip is very sweet, with lots of brown sugar and molasses, almost reminiscent of an aged rum. A bit of rye spiciness and some smoke filters through to add more complexity to the spirit. It goes down smoothly without any harshness, and finishes with that same sweetness.
Prichard’s Fudge Brownie Cream Liqueur from Tennessee ($29.99) – “After declaring me to be an evil man for creating this tempting liqueur, a lady exclaimed it’s Decadence in a Bottle!”
