18 May Patio Soon! Today’s Tasting!
Happy Friday! Great news on the patio! They poured the concrete this morning. Next week or possibly even this weekend, the patio should be ready to go! We still have some work to do back there, but it will be usable soon! Watch for the grand opening!
For this great Friday, we will be tasting four fantastic wines!
Moselland Landmark Series “The Arch” Riesling ($19.99) – Yes, that is the St. Louis Arch inside a German Riesling. Not only is this a very nice Riesling, the bottle is also a collector’s item. It has a fine, fruity Riesling bouquet, well-balanced palate, hint of exotic fruit, very crisp, refreshing and straight forward.
Brassfield Estate Sauvignon Blanc from California ($15.99) – WINEMAKING – Grapes were harvested early each morning to ensure they were cold when they arrived to the winery for gentle pressing. After 24 hours of settling, the juice was racked off the heavy lees. 50% fermented in stainless steel tanks, 25% in neutral oak barrels and 25% in stainless steel barrels. AGING – Sur Lie aging lasted eight months with battonage (lees stirring) every four weeks to create additional body, viscosity and elevated mouth feel in the resulting wine. TASTING NOTES – The 2010 Sauvignon Blanc exhibits aromas of Asian pear, cantaloupe, and citrus. The palate is fresh with flinty minerality and vibrant acidity, with flavors of tangerine, vanilla, and tropical fruit. As a result of the extended lees contact, the wine shows great depth and concentration with an exceptionally long, elegant finish.
Catena Malbec from Argentina ($25.99) – #58 Wine Spectator Top 100 of 2011. The 2010 Catena Malbec shows a deep violet color with purple tones. The nose offers concentrated aromas of ripe red and dark fruits with delicate floral notes like violets and lavender, and traces of vanilla and mocha. The mouthfeel is rich and concentrated, with blueberry and blackberry notes and a touch of leather and cinnamon. The finish presents well-integrated tannins with bright acidity and a flinty minerality that gives the wine exceptional length. WS 91pts.
Brassfield Estate Zinfandel from California ($21.99) – VINEYARDS – The two and a half acre vineyard that bears this fruit is located above 2000 feet on the eastern edge of High Valley Appellation, along the base of Round Mountain Volcano. The combination of high elevation and extremely porous soils both limit production while extracting profound quality and flavor. WINEMAKING – At Brassfield Estate, our winemaking emphasizes quality and the use of traditional hand crafted techniques, which create wines that have both power and finesse. During harvest we used aerative pump over’s and finish with extended maceration with heating of the must. The Malolactic fermentation takes place in our caves using native bacteria. The wine was stirred monthly on its lees to achieve body and texture, and a small percentage of Petite Sirah from our Volcano Ridge vineyard was blended to provide additional depth and structure. The wine was fined, but bottled without filtration. TASTING NOTES – The 2009 Zinfandel is a concentrated wine that is rich, ripe and round. It has aromas of blackberry pie and black cherry, with undertones of oak, which expands into a wine that has plush tannins with jammy fruit essences that linger on the finish.
