Here are the eight wines we will be tasting!

La Passione Sweet Pink Wine ($12.99) – Aromatic sweet sparkling rosè, a crowd pleaser. Made mostly of the Brachetto and Moscato grape, it has aromas of raspberries and strawberries. Particularly enjoyable when poured over fresh berries and topped with whipped cream and can also be enjoyed with fresh fruit tarts and wild berry sorbet. Serve chilled

La Passione Sweet Pink Red ($12.99) – “La Passione is a sweet, lightly sparkling wine that is sure to be a crowd pleaser. Made mostly of the Brachetto grape, it has aromas of raspberries and strawberries. Particularly enjoyable when poured over fresh berries and topped with whipped cream and can also be enjoyed with fresh fruit tarts and wild berry sorbet. Serve chilled.”

Kroara Cortese White Wine ($11.99) – Cortese is one of the most important whites of the Piemonte region, second only to Moscato. The Vinchio Vaglio Serra “Kroara” Cortese is fresh and clean. This crisp, light, and fruity wine has subtle notes of apples and pears and food friendly acidity. Cortese makes an excellent food wine and can be paired with hors d’oeuvres, shellfish, and seafood. It is a fitting match for pasta with green herbs as well.

IL Griso Roero Arneis ($22.99) – From the Roero winegrowing region, the Arneis grape makes an impressive white wine. A full bouquet of almond, apricot, pineapple, pear blossoms and a long, dry finish make this wine a beauty. It is a handcrafted, very small production wine from Vinchio Vaglio Serra. The Arneis grape is known to be a bit difficult to grow, making the end product all the more respected. It is sometimes referred to as Barolo Bianco. This is a full white wine that will take a well paired meal to new heights. Pair with seafood stew and other delicate fish and poultry dishes.

I Tre Vescovi Barbera d’Asti ($18.99) – A wonderful Barbera from VVS, “The Three Bishops” is a testament to the quality of this winery, and at a wonderful price.  A step up from Kroara, this Barbera from the smaller Asti zone is both fruit forward and pleasing, and complex. A very nice wine to enjoy with meat or mushroom based pasta sauces, or with a plate of mature cheese.

Kroara Barbera ($11.99) – This wonderful wine is truly amazing, especially when considering the price.  Attractive and bright ruby red, with a fresh and fruity nose. Lots of fruit up front, with a lively palate and a fresh, clean finish. A spectacular value from this Barbera specialist.

Le Nocche” Grignolino D’asti ($19.99)  – Mr. Veronelli, the most eminent Italian wine researcher, calls Grignolino “the anarchic wine” because it changes according to climatic trend. It is the sole wine, which even if it appears as a “rosè”, it has a good structure and a high tannic content that makes it agreeable and lasting. This wine has a light ruby-red colour with orange overtones, it has a light and floreal bouquet. The taste is dry, slightly tannic, bitterish and long-lasting.

“Vigne Vicchie” Barbera D’Asti Superiore ($36.99) – Our firm has got very old Barbera-variety vineyards, which date back to the period prior to the Second World War. These vineyards have a special planting system, with very close plants and an extraordinary sun exposure. Grapes coming from “Vigne Vecchie” are the richest in sugar-content and they keep a high quality standard even in bad vintages.  Grapes are chosen on the basis of their ripening. They are harvested and kept in boxes of 20 kilos each. These selected grapes are pressed under the supervision of our firm’s managers. Our vine-growers must empty the boxes one at a time in a small wine-press. The fermentation is done through vertical vinification-machines at controlled temperature. The drawing process starts after 10 days of fermentation. The wine is then transferred in small oak barrels (225 litres/each) for a period of time that changes according to the vintage and the wine’s characteristics. Its evolution is carefully supervised through monthly checks, until it is judged ready for bottling. It is a bright wine, ruby-red coloured with light-orange overtones. Its bouquet is strong, ethereal, spicy and slightly “boisé” (woody flavour). It is a full-bodied wine, soft and long-lasting, with light and sweet tannins.

This should be another great opportunity for everyone to try some new unique wines.
