Malbec World Day!

Malbec World Day!

Wednesday, April 17th is Malbec World Day!  Let’s taste a couple of Malbecs today to celebrate.

Tasting 4-17-13

Graffigna Reserve Malbec from Argentina ($15.99) – “Good medium ruby. Classic malbec aromas of blackberry and licorice lifted by a violet top note. Juicy and dry, with a firm acid/tannin spine giving shape and lift to the currant, plum and spicy oak flavors. The persistent finish shows a lightly saline quality and repeating spicy oak.”  88 Points  International Wine Cellar.

Colome Estate Malbec from Argentina ($26.99) – “Colome’s Estate Malbec is annually one of Argentina’s better values. The 2009 Estate Malbec (85%) contains small amounts of Tannat, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah in its blend. It spent 15 months in barrel, 30% new American, the balance second-use French with the fruit sourced from some of the world’s most elevated vineyards. It is purple in color with a captivating nose of cedar, Asian spices, incense, violets, black licorice, espresso, and assorted back fruits. Made in a racy style with uplifting acidity, it is a beautifully proportioned offering with exceptional elegance and length. Give it several more years of cellaring and drink this fantastic value from 2013 to 2024.” 92 Points The Wine Advocate  85% Malbec, 8% Tannat, 3% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Syrah, 2% Petit Verdot.
