Tasting 1-25-13

Folie a Deux Russian River Valley Chardonnay  from California ($17.99) – Once harvested, the juice was fermented almost entirely in French oak barrels to add complexity and develop the rich fruit flavors. After fermentation, the wine was aged in French and American oak barrels for 5 months to preserve the wine’s rich, vibrant fruit character.  Seductive, complex aromas of honey, green apple, tropical fruits, vanilla and baking bread introduce juicy apple, pineapple and tropical fruit flavors with light butter notes from partial malolactic fermentation and crisp balancing acidity. .

Batasiolo Moscato D’Asti from Italy ($18.99) –    Straw-yellow with golden highlights Nose: Ample and very intense, with a note of overripe fruit that is the unique aroma of Moscato. Palate: Full, lingering, sweetly soft flavor with an aromatic aftertaste.  Food Pairing: The wine’s characteristics are particularly enhanced when served with dry or cream desserts and fresh fruit.  It may also be consumed very well on its own, at any time of the day.

Guenoc Petite Sirah from California ($14.99) –  It opens with a subtle nose of blackberries and strawberries and delivers those fruits plus black tea and white pepper right off the bat on the tongue. Dried fruits and spice cake chime in through mid palate, while the finish is long and plumy with another little burst of black tea at the end.

Red Silk Shiraz from Australia ($19.99) –  “Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2010 Red Silk Shiraz offers aromas of crushed blackberries and wild blueberries over tar, licorice, bacon fat and loam. The palate is richly fruited with pure black berry flavors supported by a medium to firm level of grainy tannins and lively acid, finishing long. Drink it now to 2016. ” 91 Points RP – The Wine Advocate.
