16 Aug Bordeaux Tasting Tonight & Parade Saturday!
White & Red Bordeaux for our Friday tasting!
On Tuesday, I was able to have lunch with Bordeaux France winemaker Monique Bonnet, from Chateau Suau. We tasted her wines and I thought they were fantastic! I was able to bring two of them into Chateau La Vin and we will taste them tonight!
According to traditional local history, Chateau Suau was originally the hunting lodge of the Duke of Epernon (born in 1581, died in 1642). In the XVI th century(1687), during the reign of Louis XVI, the Chateau’s ownership changed over to the Suau family of Capian. By the end of the XIX th century the vineyard was producing red and sweet whitewines. During the XXth century Chateau Suau had several proprietors and was acquired in 1986 by the current operators the Bonnet family.
In 2008 the vineyard began its conversion to organic agriculture , certified by Ecocert (A French organic certification company). This conversion corresponds to a philosophy or an evolution and a belief held by all of the team members of the Château Suau; to change with improvement the process of wine production, while also having total respect for (nature) the Earth and providing the highest quality of natural wine to the consumers of our product.
Chateau Suau Bordeaux Blanc Sec from France ($18.99) – The wine is made from 55% Sauvignon Blanc, 35% Semillon, 10% Muscadelle. The grapes are destemmed and sorted on a table in the cellar. Fermentation in regulated stainless steel tanks at low temperature. Aged on fine lees during three months. This wine reveals complex aromas of honeysuckle, citrus and pineapple. It’s refreshing and expressive. An excellent depth of fruit as well as a long finish with a nice acidity.
Chateau Suau Cotes de Bordeaux from France ($24.99) – The wine is made from 60% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc. The grapes are destemmed then sorted on a table in the cellar. Cold maceration before fermentation in thermo regulated stainless steel tanks with pumping over and punching of the cap. With its ruby color, the wine offers notes of liquorice, cherries jam and toast. It’s full-bodied, fleshy, ample and well balanced. “A big, dark and perfumed wine, with a good density of ripe fruits, powerful tannins and layers of spice, acidity and red jelly. It balances weight with freshness to great effect.”- Wine Enthusiast 91 pts + BEST BUY
