22 Feb Wines of New Zealand!
Tomorrow Ted Fuehne from Southern Wines will be in the shop to pour Wines of New Zealand! Is is our first wine tasting focusing on a specific region. We will be tasting three wines from Est Valley Winery and two from Villa Maria Winery! All great wines distinctly from New Zealand. The tasting will be from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm. You won’t want to miss this! And yes, it is a free tasting!
Here are the wines we will be tasting tomorrow!
Esk Valley Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough ($18.99) – This is a very intense and powerful wine. True to its Marlborough origins its flavors are a mix of ripe tropical fruits, citrus and cooler notes of fresh herbs, tomato leaf and pea pod. It is dry and full bodied but a crisp finish provides freshness and length.
Esk Valley Chardonnay from Hawkes Bay ($21.99) – This is a full bodied but elegant style of Hawkes Bay Chardonnay, exhibiting ripe stone fruit and melon characters, intermingled with hints of butter, grapefruit and oak. The wine is rich in the mouth, complex and long.
Esk Valley Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec blend from Gimblett Gravels ($22.99) – This is a full bodied and rich Hawkes Bay blend, densely coloured and exhibiting a bouquet of plums, red fruits, dried herbs and hints of oak. The palate is soft and generous in nature, making it easy to enjoy as a young wine; however well ripened tannins suggests this wine has the potential to age exceptionally well.
Villa Maria Private Bin Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough ($13.99) – This vibrant Sauvignon Blanc is bursting with a fruit-salad-bowl of flavours including ripe gooseberry, passionfruit, fresh citrus lime and exotic herbaceous aromas. The wine has an exciting palate with layers of juicy flavours, intensity and fullness, finishing with a refreshing crisp, clean and racy acidity. Enjoy this exuberant and delightful wine.
Villa Maria Private Bin Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec blend from Hawkes Bay ($19.99) – This wine features red cherry, raspberry and cassis fruits with cedar spice and faint tobacco leaf undertones. An approachable palate follows, enhanced by fine grained tannins and good length (April 2009).
This will be a very fun event! See you then!
