03 May Today’s Tasting, Cinco de Mayo and Mother’s Day!
Cinco de Mayo is Saturday and to celebrate since we do not have any Mexican wines we will be tasting some Spanish Wines! Mother’s Day is just ten days away! Stop in and I will help you select a special wine for that special Mother in your life! Add some Almond Butter Crunch Toffee and specialty cheese to make a fantastic gift!
Today we will be tasting an Australian blend and for those of you that missed the Italian wine tasting we will open one of the white wines we featured that night.
Water Wheel Memsie Homestead Red blend from Australia ($14.99) – The 2008 Memsie Homestead red is a deep, vivid, violet color. On the nose there are berry, blackcurrant and liquorice aromas. The palate is full and rich with spice, berry and some black pepper flavors obvious. The wine is well balanced, with a persistent finish that is complimented by some fine tannin. 87% Shiraz, Malbec 7%, Cabernet Sauvignon 6%.
Kroara Cortese White Wine ($11.99) – Cortese is one of the most important whites of the Piemonte region, second only to Moscato. The Vinchio Vaglio Serra “Kroara” Cortese is fresh and clean. This crisp, light, and fruity wine has subtle notes of apples and pears and food friendly acidity. Cortese makes an excellent food wine and can be paired with hors d’oeuvres, shellfish, and seafood. It is a fitting match for pasta with green herbs as well.
