Today’s Tasting and Huge Wine and Spirits Tasting Event!

Today’s Tasting and Huge Wine and Spirits Tasting Event!

It’s a beautiful Friday!  Feels like time for a little Mischief & Mayhem!  We have two to taste today plus a Moscato and Merlot!

Mischief & Mayhem Chardonnay from Burgundy France ($34.99) – Bright pale straw in colour with hints of green and gold. Lovely clean nose of lemon, green apple, pear and lychee with chalky mineral, tarragon and lime notes.  On the palate the wine is pure and refreshing, with bright lifted acidity and subtle spice notes. In keeping with the vintage there is nice ripeness of fruit with plenty of lemon and lime citrus elements, gooseberry and hints of vanilla, baked bread, butter and cream. The finish is crisp and pure with lovely stone and grapefruit notes.  A delicious wine to drink by itself or an ideal accompaniment to shellfish, oysters, classic white fish dishes or goat cheese.

Mischief & Mayhem Pinot Noir from Burgundy France ($34.99) – Hard work amongst the vines, terrific vintage conditions and superb vineyard sites with an average vine age of 45 years. Beautiful ripe fruit so typical in 2005, light barrel treatment and early bottling, all integrate together to produce a wine of real character, purity and ripeness. This is a classic red Burgundy and we really hope that you will enjoy it. Bright ruby red in colour with a touch of pink at the rim. Extremely fine, warm nose of damsons, red cherry, clove, nutmeg and raspberry fruit. Excellent, soft mouth feel, nicely integrated supple tannins, smooth and full with cherry pie, plum and vanilla notes, all nicaly balanced with a subtle acidic structure. Lovely even grip and balance leads into a dry, well rounded and full finish. Very nice indeed.

Terra D’Oro Moscato from California ($15.99) – Terra d’Oro Moscato bursts with super-fruity super flowery aromas. Apricots and peaches are drenched in honey and wound with sweet jasmine blossoms. A subtle hint of lemon in the nose accentuates the refreshing acidity. A luxurious glass full of flowers and fruit is an undeniable pleasure. Terra d’Oro Moscato is a perfect accompaniment to fresh fruit desserts but don’t be afraid to try it as an aperitif or with spicy cuisine such as Indian or Thai. Our favorite pairing is a baked or grilled nectarine with a drizzle of balsamic and creme fraiche.

Rodney Strong Sonoma County Merlot ($15.99) – Plum and blueberry flavors with a touch of dried herb predominate in this soft, rich, mouth filling merlot, and are enhanced by aging in small oak barrels for a toasty, spicy vanilla character, and a lingering berry-cream finish. Drink this satisfying merlot over the next 2 to 4 years.

Stop in and enjoy a little Mischief and Mayhem!

Southern Starz Wine Tasting Plus Hood River Distiller Spirits Wednesday, April 4th!

Yes I did say spirits!  The Buffalo Trace Single Barrel Select Bourbon sold out the first day I got it, so I thought it was time to bring in some spirits.  Hood River Distillers will be tasting a Canadian Whiskey, Vodka, Gin, Liqueur, and Irish Cream!  In addition, my distributor had his allocation wrong on the Buffalo Trace and was able to send me six more bottles!

We will still have Don Clemens from Southern Starz in the shop with his wines! We have 8 great wines picked out to taste!  More info on the wines soon!

Southern Starz specializes in representing wineries from south of the Equator. The very experienced management team has selected some of the finest producers from South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and Argentina.

Don Clemens is currently the Midwest Regional Manager for Southern Starz. Don’s career in the wine business has included retail and restaurant management, wholesale distribution, regional sales and even winery sales management. His love of wine has led him through many challenging and rewarding opportunities, including a stint as sommelier at one of Chicago’s leading restaurants (where his wine list won a Wine Spectator “Grand Award”).
