Today’s Tasting!

Today we have a white Bordeaux, Cotes du Rhone and new Black Muscat to taste!  Ron, Keith and Luke will unfortunately not be able to make it in tonight for live jazz so we will taste some great wine and listen to some great recorded Jazz!

Tasting 12-27-12

Chateau Suau Bordeaux Blanc Sec from France ($17.99) – The white Bordeaux blend is perhaps one of the most overlooked categories of wine in the world today. Up until the 1960s, vineyards in Bordeaux were dominated by white grape varieties, namely Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle. However, changing tastes and fashions, as well as improved winemaking techniques making red Bordeaux more affordable to the general public, consigned white Bordeaux to the sidelines. The Chateau Suau Blanc Sec is friendly, with up-front peach and almond notes that turn a touch diffuse on the finish. 55% Savignon Blanc, 35% Semillon & 10% Muscadelle.

Domaine Galevan Paroles de Femme Cotes du Rhone from France ($17.99) – The 2007 Cotes du Rhone Paroles de Femme (meaning “words of a woman”). This sexy deep ripe full-bodied effort is a blend of 60% Grenache 20% Mourvedre and the rest equal parts Cinsault and Carignan. Its deep ruby/purple color is accompanied by abundant amounts of Provencal typicity as well as roasted herb meat juice kirsch and black raspberry fruit notes..

Jeunesse Black Muscat from California ($16.99) – Full of the classic aromatic top notes of fresh Muscat fruit full of pear, lychee, and pineapple, the wine is deep red in color, with fruit-forward flavor with smooth texture and a slightly sweet ripe fruit finish. This wine has received excellent reviews from the public.  This enjoyable sweet wine is pointedly “Jeunesse”- French for youthful, flavorful, and fun. The Black Muscat goes exceptionally well with Oriental cuisine, barbecued chicken and orange flavored desserts and ice-cream, and may also certainly be savored alone as an aperitif or for Kiddush. Best enjoyed with when young and fruity, please serve well chilled. California State Fair: 94 Points – California State Fair: Gold Award – Pacific Rim Wine Competition: Silver Medal.
