Today we will be tasting a white wine from Portugal and a Merlot from Sonoma County.
Praia Vinho Verde from Portugal ($14.99) – The grapes are carefully selected from the best vineyards of the Vinho Verde region – the most extensive in Portugal. The region is typical for its unique wines that are fresh and light, combined with a very well balanced acidity. These characteristics result from the region’s unique soil and climate, with a strong Atlantic influence that you will identify when you taste the wine. Praia, which means beach in Portuguese, is a smooth and fresh wine with delicate and lovely fruity flavors. Slightly spritzy, it is well balanced and very refreshing.
Rodney Strong Merlot from California ($15.99) – Plum and blueberry flavors with a touch of dried herb predominate in this soft, rich, mouth filling merlot, and are enhanced by aging in small oak barrels for a toasty, spicy vanilla character, and a lingering berry-cream finish. Drink this satisfying merlot over the next 2 to 4 years.
