27 Apr It’s Friday! Let’s taste some wine!
The weekend is here! Why not start is off at Chateau La Vin with a glass of wine or Specialty Beer with some cheese and crackers or Zettie’s Confections Almond Butter Crunch Toffee! We have four great wines to taste today!
Chateau Sylvain Raymond White Bordeaux from France ($12.99) – The 2009 Chateau Sylvain Raymond is a white Bordeaux from the Graves Appellation. French wine makers often do not display the blend of grapes on their bottles. The Chateau Sylvain Raymond is no exception. White Bordeaux wine can be a blend of Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc, Muscadelle and Ugni Blanc. Yes, some unfamiliar names! This wine certainly has Sauvignon Blanc in it and I can taste a little of the Muscadelle too. It is dry but fruity, crisp and leaves a delightful fresh impression on the palate. A very refreshing wine!
The Unknown Red Blend from California ($17.99) – As you begin your journey into “The Unknown”, delight in the aromas of ripe blackberries, plums, black licorice & spice. As you journey further, to that first sip, savor the lush, well rounded, full mouth filling flavors of plums, currants, figs and black raspberries. At last it all comes together. Find the completeness of your journey’s end with the haunting, lingering finishing characteristics of roasted coffee, black & red berries dipped in chocolate and blackberry pie. Now the challenging question: Do you know what varietals went into “The Unknown”? Stop in for a taste and test yourself!
Glen Carlou Grand Classique from South Africa ($19.99) – This is Glen Carlou’s signature red wine. Rich ruby red in color this wine has aromas of red cherry with hints of young black fruits and oak. Flavors of black cured cherries, with layers of dark chocolate and tobacco with spice. The tannins are beautifully proportioned with mild toasted almond. 43% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Petit Verdot, 16% Malbec, 16% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc.
Burgo Viejo Rioja Reserva from Spain ($22.99) – “Bright ruby. Cherry-vanilla and cassis on the nose, with oak spice and anise notes adding complexity. Juicy, broad and supple, with very good depth to its cherry compote and dark berry flavors. The vanilla note returns on the finish, which is sweet, smooth and long. This is delicious and fully mature.” – Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar (September/October 2011), 90 pts 85% Tempranillo, 10% Garnacha & 5% Carignan.
