01 Jun It’s a beautiful day and it’s Friday!
The rain has stopped and the temperature is great for unwinding in the UnWine Garden at Chateau La Vin! We have three wines to taste to start your weekend.
New Age White from Argentina ($14.99) – New Age White is back in stock! It is a light yellow-green colored wine, with fruity and floral aromas of great intensity. Balanced acidity leads to soft, semi-sweet and slightly effervescent flavors and mouth feel. It is an extremely refreshing, vivacious and sensual wine. Winemaker Notes: The fruit is handpicked followed by crushing, cooling of crushed grapes, and pressing. Fermentation begins by inoculating with selected yeasts. Halfway through the fermentation process, the wine is centrifuged (spun) to halt fermentation, creating a slightly sweet, semi-sparkling wine. Serving Hints: Should be served well-chilled as an aperitif or dessert. Also tastes great with spicy Thai, Indian, Chinese or Japanese cuisine. Grape Variety: 90% Torrontes and 10% Sauvignon Blanc
Tarot Grenache from Australia ($14.99) – Bright ruby. An intensely floral nose features red berry preserves, rose, jasmine and candied licorice. Juicy and perfumed in the mouth, with a silky touch to the intense raspberry and floral pastille flavors. Youthfully fruity wine, with tangy acidity that needs a little time to harmonize with the primary fruit. The note of candied flowers carries through the long, sappy finish. Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar 89+ Pts.
Altamira de los Andes Reserve Malbec from Argentina ($32.99) – 92 pts Robert Parker Jr/’s The Wine Advocate (JM) 12/23/12 Altamira de Los Andes’ 2009 Malbec Reserve spent 18 months in 50% new French oak. Fragrant aromas of toasty oak, earthy minerals, Asian spices, leather, and black cherry lead to a velvety-textured, succulent, nicely proportioned wine that opens in the glass to reveal excellent volume and length. It will evolve for 2-3 years but can be approached now. Wine Advocate #198 Dec 2011 (JM) Winemaker`s tasting notes: This wine shows very good color depth, with outstanding red and violet nuances, characteristic of Malbec. It amuses us with complex aromas of sweet red fruits and floral fragrances like violets, typical of Malbec. The oak provided delicate whiffs of vanilla and tobacco with a hint of white chocolate that complete the aromatic richness. The first in-mouth sensation comes from the sweetness with soft ripe tannins. The texture and structure are worthy of this variety. Soils and elevation 3,500 feet. La Consulta is predominantly clay; La Consulta Altamira Vineyard is clay and sand; Vista Flores is a combination of rocky, sand, and clay soils.
Some great cheese and crackers or Zettie’s Almond Butter Crunch Toffee would go great with these wines! See you soon!
