Gerard Bertrand French Wine Tasting!
Ted from Southern Wines & Spirits will be in the shop on Wednesday (Tomorrow), August 15th from 6:00 to 8:00 to pour five Gerard Bertrand wines from France! Here is the selection of wines:
Gerard Bertrand Gris Blanc Rose ($16.99) – Immediately seduced by the crystal-clear and pure color, the elegance of a ‘real’ rose is confirmed when tasting this gris blanc. Thirst-quenching with a taste of citrus and white fruits, its vividness and fineness makes it an enormous pleasure to drink.
Gerard Bertrand Reserve Speciale Chardonnay ($17.99) – Fresh and flavorsome, this 100% Chardonnay comes from the coastal vineyards. It offers fresh notes of citrus, ripe apple and white flowers. Aging in barrels brings out key toasty notes and aromas of hazelnut. Overall it is a well-balanced wine, fresh and mineral.
Gerard Bertrand Minervois ($17.99) – Syrah/Carignan blend. The nose is loaded with garrigue aromas, mostly rosemary and dried bay leaf, lifted by vibrant black cherry and black berry jam. Licorice and spice unfold in the chewy mouth, with a decadent milk chocolate infused finish. 89pts. WE.
Gerard Bertrand Corbieres ($17.99) – Grenache/Syrah/Mourvedre blend. Deep ruby color. Rich and concentrated with complex black fruit aromas. Complex bouquet resulting from the diversity and balance of the grape varieties (black and red berries with subtle spices, vanilla and roasted aromas). Full body texture and well rounded wine with a solid structure and elegance lingering into a long finish.
Gerard Bertrand Fitou ($19.99) – Grenache/Carignan blend. To a French man, Fitou evokes the South of France and the summer vacations spent on the Mediterranean coast. Fitou’s are made with grenache, Carignan and sometimes a bit of Syrah. They should be drunk slightly chilled to enhance its fruit character. With a bit of age, as is the case here with Gerard Bertrand’s 2009, the bouquet opens up with red fruit, pepper and a vanilla undertone (not due to oak though). On the palate, dry plum, toasted bread and pepper are the main characters. As a Southern wine, this is a robust, slightly rustic warm wine that is generous, aromatic and a great complement to any barbecued meat.
