Today we will be tasting two wines from two of the most legendary wineries in California.
Charles Krug established Napa Valley’s first winery in 1861. In 1943 the Peter Mondovi Family purchased the winery and has preserved its traditions and historic buildings while innovating with state of the are winemaking techniques.
Co-founded by Dan and Margaret Duckhorn in 1976, Duckhorn Vineyards has spent more than 30 years establishing itself as one of North America’s premier producers of Bordeaux varietal wines. Since the inaugural vintage of our Decoy Napa Valley Red Wine more than 20 years ago, Decoy has taken an important place in the Duckhorn Wine Company family of wines. With a reputation for delivering great quality at a remarkable price, Decoy has established a loyal following for its distinctive style, which emphasizes ready-upon-release wines that are capable of expressing their full charm and complexity in their youth.
From Charles Krug, we will be tasting their St. Helena-Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc ($19,99) – Their signature style Sauvignon Blanc with a eclectic array of fresh aromas giving the wine a beautiful bouquet of honeydew, peach skin, lemon grass and pear. Flavors of stone fruit and apricot balance seamlessly for a vibrant texture and crisp acidity. Just a hint of minerality rounds out the finish of this refreshing wine.
From the Duckhorn winery’s Decoy selection, we will be tasting their Decoy Sonoma County Zinfandel (21.99) – This enticing Sonoma County wine highlights a bright red-fruit and spice expression of Zinfandel. The aromas are ripe and appealing, offering layers of strawberry jam, raspberry and sweet vanilla, as well as hints of chocolate-covered cherries and white pepper. On the palate, the entry is full and balanced with lovely cranberry notes supported by the subtle influence of fine oak.
